Who Can Benefit from Athletic Therapy?

Athletic Therapy is for everyone! Whether you are a professional athlete, weekend warrior or a hardworking person working 9 to 5, athletic therapy can help you return to your daily activities as soon as possible.

What to Expect during an Athletic Therapy session?

Complete assessment of the injury or the chief complaint of the client. A demo and instructions of the rehabilitative exercises that are appropriate to the client’s current condition. The use of manual therapy and modalities to compliment the rehabilitation program. A take-home program to ensure progress without the supervision of the athletic therapist.

Individualized Treatment Plan

Athletic Therapists uses a variety of manual therapies, modalities, exercise prescription and taping to create an individualized treatment plan to treat a wide range of patients, from kids with a pulled muscle to seniors recovering from a knee replacement surgery.

Manual Therapy refers to treatments that are directly applied by the therapist. This may include but are not limited to massage, stretching and the mobilization of the clients’ joints.

Modalities refers to the use of electrical current therapy, ultrasound, thermotherapy and/or ice packs.

  • Electrical Current Therapy (IFC or TENS) is used to provide pain relief.
  • Ultrasound uses vibrations to target deeper soft-tissues to promote or speed-up healing.
  • Thermotherapy promotes relaxation and relieves soreness.
  • Ice packs are used to decrease pain and muscle spasm.

Exercise Prescription is often prescribed to allow clients to recover from an injury, but this is also important for correcting muscle imbalances to ensure that the client can move efficiently to prevent future injuries. Taping or bracing can be administered to support an injured structure and to limit painful movements
